The permanent but natural lip enhancement that will keep people wondering
What procedures are available to improve or enhance my lips?
These can be broken down to three main groups –
The injection of LIP FILLERS to increase volume, improve shape and to improve lip lines
The injection of MUSCLE RELAXANTS to reduce lip wrinkles and lines and to create a LIP FLIP
Minor SURGICAL procedures called LIP LIFT and CORNER LIP LIFT for a permanent lip rejuvenation.
While LIP FILLERS are by far one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic medicine the world over LIP FLIPS and LIFTS are two alternative procedures that are becoming increasingly popular options as they address issues that may not be addressed sufficiently by fillers alone.
The top lip varies enormously in shape, size and length between individuals. Some have a naturally long and flat top lip with thin lips such that when they smile, they barely gap the lips and display any upper teeth, making them appear to smile more horizontally.
For many the top lip lengthens and thins with age, reducing the definition of the top lip and the brightness of the smile.
The lip lift procedure is a minor surgical procedure where the top lip is shortened and everted (flipped outwards) and the cupid’s bow shape is enhanced, thus improving or rejuvenating the lips and the smile creating a more pleasing appearance and function.
If you have any of the above mentioned appearances of the top lip and you wish a permanent correction then this is a good option. A good indication is when you pull upwards on the middle of the upper lip in front of a mirror and you like the way it looks then you are likely to be happy with the procedure.
A safe and relatively minor procedure, performed under local anaesthesia only, which actually anatomically corrects the problem making it a permanent result.
It is a surgical procedure, although a minor one. Possibilities of over-correction, under-correction or asymmetry, but these are minimal in experienced hands. Infrequently, the scar healing may not be as fine as expected (keloid) but this can be managed so that the results will still be very good.
This is carried out painlessly in our procedure room under local anaesthesia only, although mild sedation for extra comfort is available if required. The procedure usually takes 30-40 minutes.
The lip is assessed in consultation to decide the degree of shortening with consideration to your personal preferences. The skin to be removed is then marked out with the incision line being hidden in the groove just under your nose, making the scar barely visible when fully healed. The shape of the skin to be removed is remarkably like the horns of a bull, which has given rise to name of the “Bullhorn Lift”.
The very fine sutures are removed in a week and there may be some residual swelling for a few more days. There will be a fine red scar in the groove under the nose gradually fades over two or three months and this may be assisted by the use of a medical grade silicone gel. Most patients would have no problem being out in public once the sutures are removed.
