There are many other energy devices on the market, including lasers and RF devices, but they generally apply too little energy on the skin surface or superficially into the dermis which is insufficient to produce significant lasting results.

Research shows that in order to achieve significant and long-lasting skin tightening and lifting you need to raise the temperatures of the tissue layers under the dermis, called the Fibro-Septal Network (FSN) to around 70 degrees Celsius. However, this cannot be achieved by applying energy through the dermis without damaging the dermis itself.

Morpheus8 overcomes this and achieves this target safely and in a controlled manner by bypassing the dermis and applying the energy directly under it through special pins.

The RF energy works by stimulating, strengthening, and contracting the fibro-septal network (FSN) underneath the dermis. The FSN is the 3-dimensional scaffolding within which the fat cells lie, and which firmly connects the dermis above it with the deeper tissues below, it is the support structure of the dermis. The FSN deteriorates with time leading to loss of support and the appearance of wrinkles, lax skin, and other aging changes. Contracting and firming the FSN produces a 3-dimensional contraction, the best possible type of tightening for the skin.

Morpheus8 also works in the dermis layer to tighten it and improve collagen and elastin production which improves the quality of the skin surface to reduce irregularities such as scarring and laxity.

The downtime is minimal. You may experience some swelling and redness but most people are able to return to normal activity levels within days. Analgesics are not commonly needed.

Is this a painful treatment?

You may apply a topical anaesthetic cream applied for 45 minutes beforehand, but tumescent anaesthesia infiltrated underneath the skin can be used if stronger treatments are deemed necessary.

The treatment is well tolerated, Some short-acting sedation is offered to those who need it but is not required as a rule.
