Surgical Lip Lift

A lip lift is a surgical procedure designed to shorten the distance between the upper lip and the nose, and address the loss of volume, shape and definition of the upper lip. Outcomes vary between individuals, and all procedures carry potential risks. A consultation is essential to assess suitability and to discuss expected results

Treatment Description

  • Supports improvement in the appearance of lip length, shape, and definition
  • May help address thinning or asymmetry of the upper lip and support visibility of the vermilion border (the pink part of the lip)
  • Can enhance the appearance of the upper teeth and contribute to a more balanced smile
  • Effects are generally longer-lasting than temporary injectable treatments, though individual outcomes vary
  • The incision is placed discreetly under the nose, and scarring is usually subtle once fully healed

Considerations

Recovery time varies, but most patients can expect some swelling and bruising around the mouth area for the first few days. This usually subsides within 1 to 2 weeks, with most patients returning to normal activities within 7-10 days.

It’s important to follow your aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing. Results are typically visible within a few weeks, with the final outcome becoming fully apparent after several months once any swelling has completely resolved.

You will require a consultation with a registered medical professional who will:

  • Discuss your concerns and goals
  • Take a full medical history
  • Assess your facial features and proportions
  • Explain the procedure, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes
  • Provide information on costs, recovery time, and follow-up care

You will have the opportunity to ask questions, and a cooling-off period will apply before booking surgery, in line with AHPRA guidelines.

As with any surgical procedure, the lip lift procedure carries risks, including bruising and swelling, infection, scarring, keloid (3-4%), changes in lip position, over-correction, under-correction, unsatisfactory aesthetic outcomes which may require revision surgery.
